The gas emitted by factories, vehicles, and even the burning of fossil fuels are some of the many causes of climate change. Countries around the world experience extreme and hotter weather because of these human activities. It’s hard to imagine that many plants and animal species are in danger of extinction these days. But the most alarming thing is the effect of climate change on future generations.
As individuals, what can we do to resolve or minimize the problem?
Energy generation is one of the main causes of climate change. Greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. The idea is the less energy we consume, the less greenhouse gas emissions there are.
Switch to LEDs. It uses about 50% less electricity than incandescent, fluorescent, and halogen lighting. It reduces 70-90% of energy costs compared to a traditional one. High-quality LED lighting last up to 50 times longer than incandescent light bulbs.
Efficient appliances like inverters, energy saver bulbs, and booster water heaters, save more energy as they use 2 to 10 times less electricity. In addition to this, these products have higher quality than the standard ones.
When purchasing new appliances, consider electronics that use less energy. It saves money, and at the same time, reduces gas emissions.
There are many ways to be efficient at home, especially in the kitchen. Use a washing machine and dishwasher with maximum load capacity, consider the right size of the machine too. Letting the laundry or hair air dry whenever possible. Lastly, do not put hot food inside the fridge, and do not open the door if unnecessary.
Preheating the oven and opening it may lose 20% of the accumulated heat. That’s why it’s advisable to cook using a pressure cooker and saucepan with a lid on to save up to 25% of energy.
We experience different seasons every year. Adjust the thermostat and lower the temperature during winter and raise it in summer. You can save 900kg of carbon dioxide a year with this simple action.
Almost 50% of energy consumption is in road transport, and it increases to 60% if cars are used for short trips. Only 21 grams of carbon dioxide is released when traveling using a bike compared to 271 grams of carbon dioxide emitted when driving. Riding a bicycle and walking are also good for your health.
Research and find out which companies use renewable energy as it generates electricity without releasing gas emissions.
Do not wait for the worst, follow these tips and help resolve climate change while saving money on your electricity. A healthy planet and stable climate provide better living.
